DescriptionWhat You'll Be Doing:
As the Lead Computational Scientist, you will be an integral part of our researcher-facing support team, leading the support of Purdue’s initiatives in aerospace and national defense, and the Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI). Under minimal direction, you will be responsible for designing and managing projects using computational tools on large-scale research computing systems. You will engage in active development of collaborative partnerships with univeristy researchers, staff, and external collaborators to lead computational implementation needed to drive Purdue's cutting-edge research. You will utilize creativity and innovation to solve complex computational problems raised by researchers and collaborate with them to develop proposal opportunities. You will provide strategic leadership and technical project management for shared cyberinfrastructure initiatives and evaluate current and future trends in areas of high-performance computing. You will design and deliver training workshops on computational tools to Purdue research communities and participate in national computing activities by attending workshops, conferences, and potentially presenting research. you may be responsible for coaching and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals.
The Rosen Center for Advanced Computing provides access to leading-edge computational and data storage systems as well as expertise in a broad range of high-performance computing activities. To fulfill our mission, we:
provide advanced computational resources and services to support Purdue faculty and staff researchers
evaluate, deploy, and support hardware and software for large-scale scientific computing
promote the effective use of our research computing systems and application software through training and education, consultation, and documentation
contribute to the discovery process through algorithm design and development of effective computing techniques

RequirementsWhat We're Looking For:
Education and Experience
Must have:
Master’s degree in engineering, math, physical or life sciences, computer science or related field
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be accepted
Four (4) years of experience in:
developing parallel computing applications, libraries, or software tools
working with researchers to integrate computing techniques into research activities
using common HPC programming languages, tools, and techniques including Fortran and/or C/C++, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA
Analyzing and optimizing performance of scientific applications
US Citizenship is required
Effective communication and inter-personal skills
Preferred:
PhD in related field
Able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance
Research background or collaboration in an academic environment
Skills that look good:
Knowledge of Linux operating system and version control software (i.e. GIT)
Knowledge of engineering computational methods and tools for computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis, discrete element analysis, etc.
Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks, and complete projects with minimal supervision
Demonstrated skills in self-motivation, analytical, and problem-solving skill
Ability to:
mentor other professionals
effectively make presentations and develop and present training material
work as part of a high performing team in a collaborative environment
work positively in an inclusive and diverse environment
Develop documentation
Preferred:
Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor students
Good verbal and written English communication skills including the ability to consult with researchers
