Abstract: The 2022 edition of the Americas High-Performance Computing (HPC) Collaboration BoF seeks to showcase collaborations that have resulted from the partnerships formed in previous editions. It will also present opportunities and experiences between different HPC Networks and Laboratories from countries in North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean. This BoF aims at showing the current state of the art in continental collaboration in HPC research, the latest developments of regional collaborative networks, and updating the roadmap for the next year for the Americas HPC partnerships.
Long Description: The 2022 edition of the Americas High-Performance Computing (HPC) Collaboration BoF seeks to showcase collaborations that have resulted from the partnerships formed in previous editions.
The Americas HPC Collaboration BoF seeks to present different collaboration experiences between institutes, supercomputing centers, national laboratories, research groups, and Advanced Computing ecosystems such as SCALAC, XSEDE, and Compute Canada with the support of the National Research Education Networks, NRENs (RedCLARA, Internet2, and CANARIE) with peers of the DOE’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory in the USA, the High Performance and Scientific Computing Center at Universidad Industrial de Santander in Colombia, the National Laboratory of High-Performance Computing in Costa Rica, the National Laboratory of Scientific Computing in Brazil and more.
In the past virtual editions, we had more than a hundred attendees ( and counted more than 400 cumulative attendees) from multiple countries in North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean. This year we expect to return to in person activities, estimating a participation of fifty attendees.
The expected outcomes of this BoF are: (i) proposing elements for the NRENs and HPC networks for the formalization and collaboration; (ii) offering a space to show relevant research projects developed by different actors (and selected of the Second workshop of Americas HPC Collaboration developed in the 2022 Latin American Conference on HPC, CARLA in Porto Alegre); and finally, (iii) a discussion to increase and to strengthen the visibility of the official Americas HPC Partnership, reflecting the strong interest shown by continental actors in the Americas. The results of this discussion will become the roadmap of our activities for the next two years (2022-2023).
The 2022 BoF Americas HPC Collaboration will have strategic guest speakers and representative guest attendees (academic, governmental, non-profit, enterprises, associations, interest groups, and institutes) from international and national consortiums to improve the discussion and facilitate interaction.
