Biography
Lorena Barba is professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the George Washington University. An international leader in computational science, she is also a long-standing advocate of open source software for science and education. She received the 2016 Leamer-Rosenthal Award for Open Social Sciences, and in an honorable mention in the 2017 Open Education Awards for Excellence of the Open Education Consortium. Barba served (2014–2021) in the Board of Directors for NumFOCUS, a US public charity supporting world-class, innovative, open-source scientific software. She is an expert in research reproducibility, was a member of the NASEM committee on Reproducibility and Replicability in Science and SC19 Reproducibility Chair, is Editor-in-Chief of "Computing in Science & Engineering" and "The Journal of Open Source Education," was founder and Associate Editor-in-Chief for "The Journal of Open Source Software," was General Chair of the global JupyterCon 2020 and was named Jupyter Distinguished Contributor in 2020.
