Chris North is a Professor of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. He is Associate Director of the Sanghani Center for AI and Data Analytics and leads the Visual Analytics research group. He was recipient of the College of Engineering’s Faculty Fellow in 2007 and received the Dean’s Award for Research Excellence in 2014. He served as Program Chair for the IEEE InfoVis and IEEE VAST Conferences and is on the editorial boards of IEEE TVCG and Information Visualization journals. He was awarded over $15M in grants and co-authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications. He founded Virginia Tech’s Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics and co-organized the Computational Modeling and Data Analytics undergraduate major. His research focuses on interactive visual analytics, combining visualization with machine learning for computationally supported human sensemaking, usability of large display spaces, and insight-based evaluation methods.
