Mahdi Belcaid earned his MSc in Computer Science from the University of Quebec at Montreal and his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM). As a UHM Assistant Research Professor, he holds appointments in the Information & Computer Sciences Department and the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. Belcaid previously served as Executive Director of the Hawaii Data Science Institute and as Director of the Bioinformatics Core. His work focuses primarily on modeling big biological data, emphasizing machine learning and probabilistic algorithms. In addition to bioinformatics, Belcaid is interested in data science education and integrating AI models to facilitate collaborative research and decision making.
