Biography
Richard Carlson is a program manager in the Department of Energy/Office of Science (DOE/SC) Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) program office. He is responsible for the managing basic research into large scale and distributed scientific collaborations. This research program fully explores the issues related to designing, building, deploying, and operating Distributing Computing and Data Ecosystems which meet the needs of large distributed science communities. As a SBIR/STTR technical topic manager he instituted a program to allow several small businesses to work collaboratively to develop photonic interconnect devices that demonstrate the power and performance benefits of optical technologies over electrical interconnect technologies. He has a MS-EE degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology and over 10 years of experience in planning, implementing, and managing the design, construction, and operation of large, complex Distributed Computing and Data Ecosystems that support large-scale DOE science initiatives.
