DescriptionAs the Group Leader, Data Intensive Computing Engineer, you will be an integral part of our systems engineering team. You will be a subject matter expert in this field. You will be responsible for leading major projects with limited supervision, mentoring team members, and the administration and deployment of our massive parallel distributed filesystems, along with the accompanying storage subsystems to enable data-intensive science.

You will act as a subject matter expert in specific technologies such as GPFS, ZFS, Lustre and HPSS and provide specialized services in this area to develop solutions for optimizing research. You will be responsible for conducting detailed analysis, designing, prototyping, and implementing solutions. This position will provide mentoring for more junior level professionals.
RequirementsWhat We're Looking for is someone who: Knows the: Application of systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users/customers, to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications Design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing, optimization, or modification of computer systems or programs, including prototypes, based on and related to user or system design specifications Design, documentation, testing, automation, creation, or modification of computer programs or complex tasks related to machine operations Work with the team to define and implement best practices and standards within the organization Diagnose system operational problems quickly and effectively Participate in an on-call rotation providing 24-hour, 7-day support and off-hours maintenance windows Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems Ability to lead storage-related projects with internal and external representatives Act as subject matter expert for storage resources for various projects Lead system design, facility integration, deployment, upgrades, issues resolution, and decommissioning Education and Experience Must have: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field preferred A minimum of six (6) years of experience in: Managing Linux/Unix operating systems in a heterogeneous environment Working with researches to integrate computer techniques into research activities An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted Preferred: Master’s degree in a STEM field Skills: Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team Working knowledge of Linux system fundamentals and common network protocols and technologies like TCP/IP, InfinBand, and Fibre-channel Experience with supporting the use of high-performance computing resources. Experience with the use of high-performance computing resource solutions like Lustre, GPFS, etc. Understanding of networked computing environment concepts Ability to: develop and maintain programs and scripts that aid in the operation and automation of administrative tasks using various shell and scripting languages. identify requirements and to define, plan, and implement requisite solutions plan, organize, prioritize tasks, and complete assigned projects with minimal supervision provide dedicated mentorship on diverse, complex, and abstract concepts Experience participating in an open-source community with patches accepted upstream. Experience deploying and maintaining automated configuration management software such as Puppet, or Ansible. Experience in storage benchmarking fundamentals and associated tools.
