DescriptionLawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL, https://www.lbl.gov/) Applied Mathematics and Computational Research Division (https://crd.lbl.gov/divisions/amcr/applied-mathematics-dept/) has an opening for a Computational Science and Algorithms Postdoctoral Scholar to work on higher-order accurate approaches and solvers.

The Applied Numerical Algorithms Group (ANAG) develops advanced numerical algorithms and software for partial differential equations integrated with software to problems of computational, scientific, and engineering interest. The primary focus of our work is in the development of high-resolution and adaptive finite difference methods for partial differential equations in complex geometries with applications to DOE-mission applications including fluid flows, industrial problems, climate, and fusion energy.
RequirementsWhat is Required: • Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physical Sciences/Engineering within the last 3 years, with a strong research experience in numerical algorithms, especially higher-order methods in space and time. • Strong background in applied mathematics, computational methods, and scientific computing. • Experience in C++ programming and optimizing performance on different architectures. Desired Qualifications: • Experience developing mathematical and software models for science applications. • Understanding of parallel computing and systems architecture in their contributions to the overall application performance. • General experience in developing higher-order finite volume methods and time integrators, and analysis of their accuracy and stability properties. • Experience with using and building open-source software, solver libraries, and high performance computing resources.
Company DescriptionBerkeley Lab is committed to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA, https://diversity.lbl.gov/ideaberkeleylab/) and strives to continue building community with these shared values and commitments. Berkeley Lab is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer. We heartily welcome applications from women, minorities, veterans, and all who would contribute to the Lab's mission of leading scientific discovery, inclusion, and professionalism. In support of our diverse global community, all qualified applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, or protected veteran status.
