DescriptionLawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL) Scientific Networking Division has an opening for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer (Remote Friendly) to join the team.
In this exciting role, you will join ESnet on the Measurement and Analysis team. The Measurement and Analysis Team is a small group of engineers that provide innovative network measurement and analysis services used to ensure effective science data movement between DOE and partner facilities across the globe. In this role, developers create and operate robust mission critical solutions involving the collection, processing, storage and presentation of network measurements and event data using open source and cloud native technologies. These solutions are used to inform the design and operation of the Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) and more broadly to serve the needs of the Department of Energy.

RequirementsWhat is Required:
• A minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team context.
• Demonstrated software development experience targeting Linux / Unix platforms involving:
◦ code contributions in Python and/or Javascript
◦ design of systems, interfaces, and data models
◦ scalable distributed systems and or web applications
• Demonstrated technical and or nontechnical leadership experience.
• Ability to develop in a linux environment using Python and Javascript.
• Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Familiarity with web APIs such as SOAP and REST.
• Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to write clear and accurate requirements, use cases, designs and documentation.
• Ability to lead large interdisciplinary teams.
Desired Qualifications:
• 12 years of relevant work in areas of software development and/or network services.
• Experience developing network telemetry/ observability systems.
• Demonstrated experience in any of the following areas:
◦ architecting software solutions
◦ developing multi-tenant services
◦ staff supervision and mentoring
◦ participation in multi-institutional collaborations
◦ product and or project management
• Experience with the following technologies:
◦ Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes
◦ React, Swagger, d3.js
◦ Postgres, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Grafana, Kafka
◦ Java, Go, C/C++
• Familiarity and experience with Agile software engineering practices that include testing, documentation, source code management (ideally Git and Github) and release procedures.
• Knowledge of Internet networking and protocols.
• Knowledge of containers and Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of network engineering concepts and protocols.
• Solid understanding of security concepts such as zero trust architectures and federated identity.
