DescriptionScientific Data Architect - 96084
Division: NE-NERSC
The National Energy Research Scientific Computing (NERSC, https://www.nersc.gov/) Center at Berkeley Lab is seeking a Scientific Data Architect to collaborate with scientists to enable their Data, AI and Analytics needs using NERSC supercomputers.
NERSC provides high performance computing services to the Department of Energy's Office of Science programs, including High Energy Physics, Basic Energy Sciences, Fusion Energy Sciences, and Biological and Environmental Research. NERSC is currently deploying Perlmutter, a supercomputer featuring a GPU partition with over 6000 GPUs as well as an all-flash filesystem and high-performance networking for data-centric computing. The DAS Group at NERSC is responsible for providing data, AI and analytics software, services and support for NERSC systems.
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for ensuring NERSC systems have a high performing data and AI software stack available for NERSC users, providing guidance for some of NERSC’s data management, transfer, storage, I/O tools, containers, and services. You will also be part of multidisciplinary and cross-institution scientific projects, working with scientists and instruments from around the world.
What You Will Do:
• Ensure NERSC systems provide a high performing and usable software stack for data analytics, machine learning, data management, I/O, container, or data transfer workloads. Expertise in one of these areas will be expected.
• Provide guidance via user support, including one-on-one support, training and documentation on data and analytics services at NERSC.
• Build partnerships and collaborations with scientists from across Berkeley Lab and the Department of Energy Office of Science community.
Additional Responsibilities as needed:
• Mentor early career staff members in data analytics, data transfer, data management or AI/ML techniques.
• Stay abreast of new and emerging data analytics and AI research and trends, through R&D collaborations, literature, workshops and conferences; translate these new directions into actionable opportunities for NERSC or NERSC users.
• Develop strategy for addressing both performance, as well as productivity requirements of the NERSC Data science community.
