SUMMARY:TexaCal
DESCRIPTION:Student Cluster Competition\n\nTexaCal\n\nFeister, Small, Mann
ings, Chase, D'Ambrosio...\n\nOur team consists of four students from Cali
fornia State University Channel Islands and two students from Prairie View
A&M University. Both schools competed in the 2022 Winter Classic Invitat
ional Student Cluster Competition which involved running benchmarks and HP
C simulations on hardware provided by four mentor organizations (HPE, NASA
, Oak Ridge, AWS). \nOut of 12 teams that participated, team Channel Islan
ds finished strong despite no prior experience in HPC and team Prairie Vie
w A&M was declared the winner of the competition finishing in first place.
With A&M’s knowledgeable experience and Channel Island’s desire to learn,
we will make a formidable team for the SC22 event. \n\nSome of our acade
mic disciplines include mathematics, cybersecurity, software engineering,
electrical engineering, and mechatronics. \n\nHPC and this competition wi
ll help the team members find careers in any of a wide variety of fields\n
\nDan Olds is the main advisor for the team currently. He has worked with
student cluster competitions since 2010 and is the organizer of the 2021 a
nd 2022 Winter Classic cluster competitions.\n\nOur team is sponsored by P
enguin Computing, the first time this organization has taken part in a stu
dent cluster competition. \nWe will also receive training from a variety
of sources including the Stanford High Performance Computing Center, vario
us application experts, and personnel from Penguin Computing. From all of
these sources, we expect to learn a lot by working together over the summ
er learning about HPC and about the hardware that has been provided. \n\nT
he team will receive training from a variety of sources including the Stan
ford High Performance Computing Center, various application experts, and p
ersonnel from Penguin Computing. \n\nThe students are enthusiastic about t
his competition and all are looking to learn more about HPC with the hopes
of making it their career. \n\nDan Olds is the main advisor for the team
